Charity Cricket Match
We are really excited about staging the RNCF's first ever charity cricket match at Reed’s School, Sandy Lane, Cobham, Surrey, KT11 2ES on Monday, 9th July 2012. The 40 overs per side match will be between an RNCF X1 vs Reed's Chough team. Former England cricketers Devon Malcolm and Keith Medlycott will play in the match. Drinks will be provided upon arrival, there will be a two courses lunch plus a BBQ in the marquee – all this for just £25 per person. CRICKET
Semi – Final 1 : Cheam v St Olave‘s
Cheam won the toss and decided to bowl in overcast conditions. This choice was vindicated when through Hopton (5-1-11-4) took three early breakthroughs to leave St Olave's struggling early on at 37 for 5. The game continued to be a great contest between both sides with the batting side making a total of 98 all out.
In reply, Cheam lost early wickets including two run outs, which was testament to the tight bowling from St Olave's. They created much pressure through excellent bowling from Burdass and Padmore Ben Sedgwick-Dwane composed an aggressive 32 runs, and with 3 overs left, Cheam needed 12 runs with 3 wickets in hand. Burdass came back into the attack and Cheam ended 2 runs short. It was an excellent game of cricket and both sides should be congratulated for playing their part.
Semi-Final 2: New Beacon v Millfield
In another closely fought semi-final, these two sides made good early headway. Through the efforts of Earl (42) with bowling figures of 5 overs, 1 wkt for 6 runs, New Beacon made 115 in their 25 overs. Millfield went on to make 116, winning the match in the final over of the match.
Play-off for third place : New Beacon v Cheam
New Beacon started off in very positive fashion and at one stage looked on course for an enormous total. Clean hitting and some rather inconsistent bowling from Cheam meant for a very healthy total be racked up by the batting side; New Beacon ended up on 150/5, mainly thanks to a very well compiled 68 from Crawley and hard hitting 38 from Suiguy. This total proved far too many for the Cheam batsmen, athough through Dawson (20) and Gibbs (25) Cheam ended up on 96 all out. New Beacon should be thoroughly congratulated on a creditable third place.
FINAL : ST OLAVE’S V MILLFIELD
In damp conditions St Olave’s batted first, making a total of 128 in the 25 overs, with Ted Patmore scoring 32. Millfield took the field confidently, but in worsening conditions and strong fielding from St Olave’s, were held back from making any real headway. The pressure in the field continued, and Millfield were finally bowled out for a total of 65. Congratulations to St Olave’s in becoming the JET Cricket champions for 2011, and to Ted Patmore who was named “ boy of the match.
ROUNDERS
Fifty teams set out in pursuit of reaching Finals Day at St Edward’s, Oxford and despite a Royal Wedding, Bank Holidays, different half terms and the unpredictable English weather, 4 teams emerged as semi-finalists.
In the first semi-final Wellesley House overcame Packwood Haugh 13.5 to 5.5, following a strong second innings. Semi-final 2 saw Millfield defeat Badminton 8.5 to 12, with 6 batters still in. The main difference here being Millfield’s excellent outfielding and catching. The 3rd/4th place play-off match was keenly contested with Badminton proving victorious over Packwood by 16 to 12. The final, a repeat of the 2010 game, had a similar outcome with Millfield winning 29 to 28 with 4 batters left. It was a high class final with two strong teams choosing their best form when it mattered.
Congratulations to Millfield for winning two years in succession and for reaching the last 4 finals! Special mention also to Badminton who got to this stage for the first time. Apart from the changeable weather it was a lovely occasion with some fine Rounders being played. Holly from Packwood Haugh was commended by the umpires and organiser for her strong showing at 1st post, while Heather from Wellesley House was selected as the player of the tournament for her super batting and fielding.
Following in Margaret Ferguson’s footsteps was never going to be easy and having Sue Manson on the end of an email for advice was always reassuring. Also, without the brilliant support and organisational skills of my PA, Julia, the running of this event would not have gone as smoothly. I thank you all for your support this year and hope to see you all participating again in 2012.

Huge thanks to Greg Das Gupta and Martin Watson - the organisers of the JET Cricket and Rounders Competition, to St Edward’s School who host the Finals, all parents and supporters and of course the boys and girls who compete so well.
