What we do
Royal National Children's Foundation helps children and young people aged between 7 and 18 who have suffered greatly at home or at school, and who are at risk.
Lives and prospects may be transformed by the pastoral care, security and education offered by boarding school.
To receive support a child must be:
- aged between 7 and 18 years
- have suffered real trauma, tragedy or neglect or be at risk in some way.
- be from a family who cannot meet the cost of such education unaided.
Unfortunately RNCF cannot consider cases of financial difficulties, educational preferences or special needs alone.
If you know a child or a family who might deserve Royal National Children’s Foundation help, please contact us.
Our research proves just how effective this support is in transforming the lives and prospects of so many vulnerable young people. They tend to grasp their golden opportunity with both hands and frequently outperform their boarding school peers across a range of social, emotional and academic criteria. We can show that the pastoral care and structured environment of boarding schools throughout the UK has helped transform the lives of approximately 2500 vulnerable young people, many of whom might otherwise have been taken into local authority care.
The research, though, also shows that there are many more at risk young people in the UK whom we simply cannot support. The objective of the new RNCF, therefore, is simple and direct: we intend to support more vulnerable, disadvantaged young people. Our target within 5 years is to increase to 500 the number of young people we are able to support for the duration of their schooling.
